Birth Details
(39.4 weeks)
It was 10 minutes to 7:00 on Sunday night and I was headed out the door to a Youth fireside at the church when my water broke. As weird as it might sound...I wasn't quite sure what had happened. For some reason I thought I could still go to the fireside...until I realized I couldn't leave the bathroom without having an "accident". I'm just glad it didn't happen AT the fireside...that could have been awkward!!! I couldn't believe it was time! I got really excited and told Shane he better finish packing his bags and that we needed to get the kids to the neighbors.
1 hour later we arrived at the hospital (around 8:00 p.m).
(One last picture of my HUGE belly!!)
I was not having contractions, so we quietly walked ourselves up to the Maternity floor. It was nice checking myself in without being in tons of pain.
Nothing really happened for the next 4 hours. We all just waited around with wires stuck to my belly (monitoring the baby and my contractions) and hoping the contractions would come. Around 12:30 in the morning (on Monday) I finally had 3 big contractions about 7 minutes from each other. They caught me by surprise because I was hardly having any small ones. The nurse was also surprised (she was monitoring me from the nurse station), she came into the room and said "what were those?" Over the next 3 hours they started getting closer together and a little stronger. I was trying to be tough and hold out as long as I could without the epidural. Then I realized...WHY WAIT...if they'll give it to me now I better take it. I'm glad I did!!!! The contractions were much easier to endure and I had a great time enjoying the experience. The epidural was nice because it dulled the pain, but I could still feel the contractions enough to know what was going on.
About 2:45 the doctor came to check me for the 3rd time. I wasn't dilating past a 7, but while checking me she did something (not sure what) and all of a sudden she said I was ready.
(This is just a picture of the board that had my nurses names on it)
After at least 30 minutes of pushing...he finally came. But only his head came out. I remember with Tia once her head was out the rest of her came out super easy. That was NOT the case this time. After his head came out I still pushed quite a few more times before he finally came out. The doctor actually had to pull him by his head a few times to help him out. He had shoulder dystocia (the shoulders fail to deliver shortly after the fetal head).Good thing I didn't know about shoulder dystocia until just a few minutes ago. I would have panicked had I known during delivery. We are very blessed that everything turned out fine. After they weighed him it all made sense. He was bigger than we all expected. Jayden was 7 lbs 5 oz. & Tia was 7 lbs 9 oz, so we were thinking he'd maybe be 8 lbs. I was a little shocked when they told me he was 9 lbs 1 oz. I knew he felt bigger than the other two. The doctor did awesome and Jett was as healthy as we had hoped!
The Name:
Jett Shane Andrews
About 3 months ago for Family Home Evening (FHE) we split up in teams to think of baby names. Jayden was on my team and Tia was on Shane's team. We only had 15 minutes to find names, so Jayden and I went to the computer and printed off a bunch of "B" and "J" names (because I was liking B and J names at that point). He and I then went through our list and circled the names that we both liked. After that we got back together with Shane and Tia to share the names we liked. We then read each other the "liked" names and if the other team liked the name also, then we'd highlight it.
Jet was both circled and highlighted, but I had forgot about it until a month or so ago when both Jayden and Tia were telling neighbors that our baby's name was Jett. I asked them where they came up with that name and Jayden reminded me it was from our FHE game. I couldn't believe he remembered that name. We then told them to stop telling people because it was NOT his name. To make a long story short we all ended up liking the name (it took me a little longer to get used to it, but now I love it).
So, our KIDS ended up naming Jett.
